Job Summary:
The Project-Focused Mechanical Engineer / Plant Design Engineer who owns facility layouts, piping, compressed air systems, equipment placement, and expansion projects while spending a significant amount of time in CAD creating the drawings needed to execute those projects.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
CAD Design & Engineering Drawings
Create and maintain detailed CAD drawings and models.
Develop facility layouts for manufacturing equipment and plant expansions.
Produce equipment placement and installation drawings.
Generate piping system drawings.
Create compressed air system layouts and distribution drawings.
Develop utility routing drawings (air, water, electrical coordination, etc.).
Prepare construction and fabrication drawings for contractors and internal teams.
Facility & Expansion Projects
Support new factory and facility expansion projects.
Design and optimize equipment layouts for production efficiency.
Coordinate facility modifications and infrastructure upgrades.
Assist with equipment moves, additions, and installations.
Ensure designs support operational growth and scalability.
Project Management
Manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously.
Track project timelines, deliverables, and priorities.
Coordinate with operations, maintenance, contractors, and vendors.
Provide project updates to leadership.
Ensure projects are completed on time and within scope.
Manufacturing & Plant Support
Work closely with operations teams to understand equipment and process needs.
Develop practical engineering solutions for manufacturing challenges.
Support installation and commissioning activities.
Troubleshoot facility and equipment layout issues.
Improve workflow, material flow, and plant utilization.
Technical Skills
Advanced proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar).
Strong mechanical design background.
Experience with industrial facility layouts.
Knowledge of piping systems and compressed air systems.
Understanding of manufacturing equipment integration.
Ability to read and create engineering drawings, P&IDs, and schematics.
Quality Assurance:
Develop in-process quality control using technology solutions to ensure all Critical to Quality manufacturing processes are in control and producing the desired outcome
Implement fully automated finished goods quality control processes
Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to quality and implement improvements as needed.
Support new product introduction (NPI) by validating processes and ensuring seamless scaling to production.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment, and quality assurance principles.
Proficiency in CAD software for designing tools, jigs, and equipment layouts.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Capability to support equipment installation and commissioning utilizing internal and external resources
Work with electrical and controls engineers to integrate mechanical systems with automation and control systems.
Troubleshooting and improvement of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and fluid system issues in production applications.
Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC) and quality assurance tools.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a mass manufacturing environment, with a focus on process improvement, equipment design, and quality control.
