divh2Irving Independent School District Bus Driver/h2pPrimary Purpose: Is responsible for students safety and orderly transportation on assigned routes of the Irving Independent School District.
Operates a school bus that transports students and other authorized personnel to and from schools or designated locations.
/ppQualifications:/pulliHigh school diploma or GED from an accredited institution (preferred) or fully certified with a Class A or B CDL with P and S endorsements and the 20-hour Bus Safety Certificate.
/liliValid Texas Commercial Driver License -Class A or B, including P and S endorsements-insurable by Irving ISDs insurance carrier (preferred)/liliState Bus Drivers certification course (preferred)/liliDOT physical Medical Examiners Certificate (preferred)/li/ulpSpecial Knowledge/Skills:/pulliMust be 21 years of age/liliAbility to follow instructions (written and verbal)/liliEffective communication and interpersonal skills/liliPass an annual physical examination/liliPossess a CDL License and school bus certification or must obtain a CDL and bus driver certification within 90 days of employment.
/liliDistrict instructed safety and operational procedure training/liliSatisfactory driving record/liliAbility to speak and understand English and to read, write and comprehend instructions/liliAbility to hear and respond verbally to acts of disruption and safety and behavior concerns/li/ulpMinimum Experience: One [1] year of experience in a related field preferred/ppMajor Responsibilities and Job Duties:/polliSafely and efficiently delivers students to and from schools by following assigned bus routes, adhering to established schedules, and obeying all traffic laws.
/liliMaintains safety precautions when students are boarding and departing buses using hand-operated door mechanisms.
/liliMaintains discipline and reports student discipline problems to the appropriate Administrator.
/liliMaintains a current record of assigned routes and stops, including required seating charts for elementary and junior high students.
/liliPerforms prompt, quick bus evacuations of students in emergencies.
/liliKeeps the buss interior clean and always maintains an appropriate fuel level in the bus.
/liliInspect the entire bus for students after each route and before returning to the Transportation facility.
/liliAbility to operate cell phone equipment and communicate with the Transportation Office.
/liliChecks the bus for mechanical defects before and after each operation and immediately reports any abnormality or malfunction.
/liliReports involvement in an accident [regardless of severity], vehicle damage, and student injuries immediately complete required reports.
/liliAdministers basic first aid when necessary.
/liliCompletes specialized training opportunities made available through the Transportation Department: i.e., CPR, first-aid, behind-the-wheel training, discipline management procedures, etc.
/liliMaintains positive rapport with students, administrators, teachers, staff, and parents.
/liliUnderstands and observes state laws pertaining to vehicle safety.
/liliAttends required staff development and monthly safety meetings as the Administration and Director requires.
/liliAssumes responsibility for personal daily timecards.
/liliDemonstrates behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
/liliFollows all rules, regulations, and policies of the Irving Independent School District.
/li/olpSupervisory Responsibilities: None/ppWorking Conditions:/ppMental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:/ppTools/Equipment Used: Operates school buses and all specialized equipment identified to accommodate special needs students.
/ppPosture: Prolonged sitting and standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; with extended reaching above the head/ppMotion: Frequent climbing and walking; driving in reverse 2% of the time, which requires twisting the upper body and neck while driving.
Frequent lifting and pulling on the lever used to open and close the bus door.
/ppLifting: Lifting and carrying up to 40 lbs.
, team lifting is not likely to exceed 150 lbs.
/ppEnvironment: Exposure to inclement weather, including heat, cold, rain, and snow; loads and unloads vehicle, making frequent stops; ability to safely exit the rear of the bus from 4 elevation; operates vehicles (up to 60,000 lbs.) up to 100 miles per day in rural and city traffic.
Climb steps in and out of bus up to 16 times per route from a 20 elevation (3 routes daily), ability to walk 35 yards within 25 seconds; occasional prolonged and irregular hours/ppMental Demands: Effective communication skills (both verbal and written); maintain effective control over groups of students; responds appropriately in emergency situations; maintains emotional control under stressful conditions/ppSafety: Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to the supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
