Job Summary:

The staff OTA assumes responsibility and accountability for providing occupational therapy modalities and treatment procedures as determined by a treatment plan established by an OT and in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies while maintaining the highest degree of quality patient care.

Educational Requirements:

Must be a graduate of or have a certificate from an American Occupational Therapy Association (approved school of occupational therapy assistant).

Certification/Licensure:

Must have or be eligible for a Mississippi state licensure as an Occupational Therapy Assistant per state law. Have a Tennessee state licensure as an Occupational Therapy Assistant preferred. A current license to operate a motor vehicle is required.

Experience:

Two years of clinical experience as an OTA preferred. Home Health experience as an OTA preferred.

Language/Communication:

English required. Multilingual capabilities enhance the ability to perform this job. Must have the ability to speak effectively and professionally to all staff, management, and all outside individuals at all levels from elementary to professional. Must have the ability to speak intelligently and in a professional manner before others.

Mathematical Skills:

Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Must have the ability to compute rate, ratio and percentages in interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

Must be able to apply the theory of occupational therapy. Must be able to perform technical procedures. Must be able to instill confidence in patients, physicians, and personnel. Must be able to determine proper procedures and methods and evaluate results. Must be able to make decisions on their own. Must have the ability to adapt to emergency situations. Must be alert to changes in a patient's condition. Must maintain a high degree of accuracy in carrying out prescriptions, receiving and translating information, and charting and reporting.
