The Opportunity

The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Associate Engineering Technician under general supervision, performs technical tasks requiring intermediate knowledge of engineering principles and practices in support of creating or modifying deliverables. This role will be responsible for the development of plan & profile deliverables using Autodesk Civil 3D and/or Bentley MicroStation. 

This role will be within the Black & Veatch Distributed Infrastructure (Grid) solution, supporting client needs related to underground transmission line projects.  Basic Civil 3D experience is required with knowledge of alignments, plan/profile, and sections.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supports engineering teams under general supervision  
  • Performs technical tasks requiring intermediate knowledge of engineering principles and practices  
  • Uses digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling)  
  • Creates, updates, and maintains technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables  
  • Begins providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering technicians 
  • Stay current on applicable standards, systems, document control practices, departmental guides, and BV policies and procedures  
  • Apply knowledge of the BV Quality Program to ensure accurate, compliant deliverables  
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail while supporting continuous improvement and change management initiatives  
  • Use and expand applications and tools to evaluate and improve methods, processes, and procedures  
  • Create and develop project deliverables based on a variety of design inputs  
  • Perform basic computations, including material quantity estimates and dimensional checks  
  • Coordinate deliverables with other project groups to minimize errors and interferences  
  • Support internal client needs while developing an understanding of external client priorities and drivers  
  • Proactively seek out, share, and apply knowledge of new technologies and evolving processes 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or Certificate preferred.
  • Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Typically a minimum of 2 years related work experience.
  • All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
