Position Summary
An Instructional Assistant supports teachers and staff in helping students who need a non-traditional learning environment succeed academically and behaviorally. In the Kings Academy, this role often includes behavior support, mentoring, and close supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom Support Assist the students with daily lessons and activities Work with small groups or one-on-one with students Help students stay focused and complete assignments Behavior&Student Support
Monitor student behavior and reinforce expectations Help de-escalate conflicts or disruptive situations Build positive relationships with students who may struggle in traditional settings Supervision
Monitor hallways, lunchrooms, and common areas Ensure student safety and follow school procedures Academic Assistance
Help explain assignments and instructions Support students with basic skills (reading, math, etc.) Track student progress or completion of work Administrative Tasks
Prepare classroom materials Assist with grading or organizing assignments Document behavior or incidents when needed Qualifications
Required
High school diploma or GED Ability to pass a background check Preferred
Associate degree or 60 college credits Passing score on ParaPro Assessment Experience working with youth, especially at-risk students Skills&Traits
Patience and emotional control Strong communication skills Ability to stay calm in stressful situations Consistency and fairness Teamwork with teachers and staff Basic academic support skills Work Environment
Smaller class sizes Students may have behavioral, attendance, or academic challenges More structured and closely supervised environment Greater focus on discipline, accountability, and personal growth Physical Demands
