BIOLOGIST 1-3/ ROCKEFELLER
This position is in a career progression series and will work directly with biologists, wildlife technicians, and heavy mobile equipment operators. The incumbent of this position is responsible for assisting and advising a Biologist Supervisor or other supervisors in planning, coordinating, and conducting management, research, and restoration on coastal properties. The incumbent is required to use computers to write reports and submit collected data as well as, exert brief periods of heavy muscular or strenuous physical exertion. Examples include, occasionally lifting of objects over 50 pounds, such as alligators, duck crates, boats, and cannon nets. Some job activities require extended work hours, overnight work, travel, riding in small aircraft and all types of vessels.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources.

Job Duties and Other Information
JOB DUTIES:
As a Biologist, you will contribute to the study, management, and conservation of natural resources through scientific research, field investigations, and data analysis that support environmental stewardship and informed decision-making. In this role, you will:
Responsible for administration and implementation of habitat management and manipulation under general supervision of a Biologist Supervisor (i.e. burn plans, herbicide application plans, and water drawdowns with in the management units)
Analyze biological data using spreadsheet and GIS software for scientific reports, popular articles, and research publications. Examples include: entering and graphing environmental and biological data on the refuge
Serve as mentor and advisor to university students and other LDWF biologists conducting research at Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge, and on other LDWF project areas
Assist supervisors with monitoring progress of Capital Outlay projects, contracts, and grants on Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge
Prepare various reports, correspondences, timesheets, expense forms, invoices, purchase orders, etc. for projects
Provide advice and recommendations to supervisory personnel regarding projects, programs, and job priorities to optimize enhancement, management, and public use of LDWF properties
Attend meetings, conferences, and workshops for work-plan coordination, to obtain / provide continuing education and/or safety training, and to report findings at professional conferences
Assist LDWF personnel with the management and maintenance of Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge, as well as other LDWF properties
Assists in other wildlife research, monitoring, and management programs implemented by LDWF

Location: This position will be domiciled in Cameron Parish.
Appointment Type:Job appointment, probational appointment, promotional, or detail to special duty.
If filled as a job appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a probational appointment should funding become available. Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if selected.
