Under the general direction of the Information Technology Manager I (ITM I), the Information Technology Specialist II (ITS II) serves as a senior systems administrator within the System Administration 2 Section, Infrastructure&Operations Branch, Technology Services Division (TSD). The ITS II independently performs advanced technical work and collaborates with other IT specialists on highly complex, mission-critical systems that support the Child Support Enforcement (CSE) application and statewide infrastructure services.

The ideal candidate brings extensive expertise with Red Hat Enterprise Linux , modern automation practices and cloud operations and who is motivated by opportunities to modernize systems, improve reliability, and enhance the Department's technical capabilities.

Key Responsibilities and Technical Focus Areas:

• Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Administration Administer, secure, and optimize RHEL-based systems supporting enterprise workloads. Utilize Red Hat IdM/IPA, Satellite, and Insights for identity management, lifecycle automation, compliance enforcement, system analytics, and proactive remediation. Ensure systems are stable, secure, and aligned with departmental operational needs.

• Automation and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) Design and implement automation solutions that streamline provisioning, configuration, patching, and hardening of RHEL systems. Develop and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code work flows using Ansible, Terraform, etc. Create repeatable, scalable, and secure processes that reduce manual effort and improve operational consistency.

• Operations, Modernization, and Cloud Integration. Support modernization initiatives across hybrid environments, including orchestration, resource optimization, and long-term architecture improvements. Perform advanced troubleshooting, performance tuning, and system health monitoring. Manage backup and recovery operations using tools such as CommVault to ensure high availability and data resiliency.

Working Conditions

Department of Child Support Services (DCSS) is a diverse, family-friendly organization. The headquarters office is in Rancho Cordova, convenient to Highway 50, with free parking, close to restaurants and shopping. The facility consists of a standard office workspace, within a 2-story building, and may require sitting for extended periods of time while using a personal computer, reviewing documents, and attending meetings. The position requires occasional travel to off-site meeting locations, conferences, or training. The work environment is fast paced and requires the incumbent to be flexible, use good time management practices, and effectively identify priorities to complete assignments in a timely manner.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule and requires employees to work two days, each week, on-site at our headquarters office in Rancho Cordova, CA; however, changes to the hybrid/telework program are at the department's and/or Governor's discretion. DCSS does utilize a shared workspace or "hoteling" when working in the office.

All employees may be required to report in person to the Rancho Cordova headquarters and/or off-site events or locations, as determined by management.
