Location: Multiple Michigan locations with a hybrid schedule (in-office M/T/Th, remote W/F);

Service centers: Jackson, Lansing, Kalamazoo, Royal Oak, Livonia, Flint, Macomb, Bay City, Saginaw, Grand Rapids etc.

Job Description:

CMS Energy is seeking a skilled Design Technician II to support civil construction projects related to natural gas infrastructure. This role requires a detail-oriented professional proficient in developing accurate construction drawings and collaborating closely with engineering teams to ensure high-quality and compliant project designs.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Develop detailed civil construction drawings using MicroStation for natural gas infrastructure projects.

Create and update standard detail drawings within MicroStation.

Analyze third-party design submissions using internal tools to verify adherence to company specifications and standards.

Collaborate effectively with internal engineering staff to support project planning and execution.

Interpret and produce comprehensive construction drawing packages, including civil site, foundation, and structural design elements.

 

Qualifications:

Associate degree in a scientific or technical field is preferred. Significant relevant design experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Proficient in computer-aided design and drafting of construction documents.

Strong understanding of safety, ergonomics, and practicality in design.

Excellent attention to detail with the ability to create clear, precise technical drawings.

Preferred experience with Bentley software products, including MicroStation, OpenPlant, and ProjectWise.

 

Additional Information:

This position requires a strong background in CAD drafting with an emphasis on civil engineering applications.

Candidates should be capable of working both independently and within cross-functional teams.
