Job Title: Grounds/Maintenance Worker Exemption Status/Test: Nonexempt Reports to: Maintenance/Transportation Director Date Revised: April 6, 2026 Dept./School: Maintenance Primary Purpose: Maintain safe and attractive grounds and landscaping for the district. Maintain athletic fields. Qualifications:Education/Certification: Valid Texas driver's license Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to understand detailed written or oral instructions Ability to communicate effectively Ability to operate power-driven equipment Experience: None Major Responsibilities and Duties: Grounds and Landscaping1. Mow and detail all district grounds, including athletic fields. 2. Follow scheduled maintenance plan to care for lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers by watering, pruning, fertilizing, mulching, caring for beds, and controlling weeds. 3. Plant shrubs and vegetation. 4. Assist with the preparation of athletic fields for games, including chalking fields.5. Collect and dispose of leaves, dirt, rubbish, and refuse from district facilities. 6. Assist with the inspection, repair, and installation of sprinkler systems. Maintenance and Repair 7. Assist skilled workers with repair and maintenance of district facilities, including repairing woodwork; replacing electrical switches, fixtures, and motors; painting, repairing, and replacing plumbing fixturesand drainage systems; and replacing broken glass. 8. Inspect building exterior and interior, playground equipment, and grounds; perform maintenance and minor repairs.

9. Detect and report needed major repairs on building structures and their systems, including lockers, furniture, and equipment. 10. Complete repairs as directed on work orders or by maintenance foreman. 11. Assist with mowing and detailing of district grounds. 12. Move, install, assemble, and repair all school furniture and playground equipment as needed.Safety 13. Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing. 14. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.15. Help keep vehicle, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition. 16. Inspect and adjust tools and equipment for safety and efficiency and perform preventive maintenance as needed. 17. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Other 18. Transport workers and equipment to work sites throughout the district.Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Tools/Equipment Used: Garden tools; small hand tools; power tools; heavy equipment including backhoe, tractor, grader; and power mower; light truck or van Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work intiring and uncomfortable positions Motion: Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis Environment: Work indoors and outdoors on uneven or slippery surfaces; frequent exposure to extremetemperatures, dust, noise, vibration, chemicals, and electrical hazards; work around moving machinery; may work alone; regular irregular hours with occasional extended hours; frequent districtwide travel.
