Position Summary We are seeking a skilled and dependable
Lead Mechanic
with broad hands-on experience covering
automotive systems, small engines, and heavy equipment
. The ideal candidate will lead daily shop operations, mentor technicians, and ensure that all vehicles and equipment are maintained to the highest standards of safety, reliability, and performance. Key Responsibilities Lead, train, and supervise a team of mechanics and technicians Diagnose, repair, and maintain a diverse fleet including:Automotive vehicles (light- and medium-duty trucks, vans) Small engines (lawn equipment, generators, compressors, pumps) Medium- and heavy-duty equipment (trailers, skid steers, loaders, excavators, tractors)
Perform advanced diagnostics on gasoline and diesel automotive engines, drivetrains, brakes, steering, suspension, HVAC, and electrical systems Troubleshoot complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic issues Develop and manage preventive maintenance schedules for vehicles and equipment Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with safety, DOT, and operational standardsMaintain accurate service records, repair logs, and parts documentation Coordinate parts ordering, inventory control, and outside vendor services Enforce shop safety procedures and promote best practices Assist with equipment evaluations, rebuilds, and replacement planning Required Qualifications5+ years of hands-on mechanical experience including: Automotive repair and diagnostics Small engine service Heavy equipment and diesel systems
Proven leadership or supervisory experience in a shop or fleet environment Strong working knowledge of: Gasoline and diesel engines Automotive electrical and electronic systems Hydraulic systems and powertrains Diagnostic software and scan tools
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred but not required) Preferred Qualifications ASE certifications (Automotive, Medium/Heavy Truck, or Diesel) Technical school or vocational training in automotive or diesel technologyDOT inspection certification Experience with fleet maintenance or CMMS software Welding and fabrication skills Virginia State Inspector’s License Work Environment&Physical Demands Shop and field-based work in varying conditions Ability to lift up to [50–75] lbs Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working around moving equipment Compensation&Benefits Competitive pay based on experience Health, dental, and vision insurance Retirement plan with company match Paid time off and paid holidays Company tools, uniforms, and training opportunities Opportunities for advancement and professional development
