Staff Accountant, Grand Central

Description We are looking for a Staff Accountant to support a luxury retail organization in New York, New York. This Long-term Contract position is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting specialist who is comfortable working across core general ledger activities and contributing to an efficient monthly close process. The role offers the opportunity to handle key reconciliations, prepare financial entries, and help maintain accurate accounting records in a fast-paced retail environment. Responsibilities: - Prepare and record journal entries to ensure financial transactions are accurately reflected in the accounting records. - Reconcile balance sheet accounts on a regular basis and investigate variances to support clean and reliable financial reporting. - Perform bank reconciliations, resolve discrepancies promptly, and maintain supporting documentation for audit readiness. - Assist with month-end close activities by organizing schedules, validating account activity, and meeting reporting deadlines. - Support general ledger maintenance by reviewing postings for accuracy and helping preserve the integrity of financial data. - Use Excel to analyze account activity, compile reconciliations, and create clear supporting schedules for the accounting team. - Work within SAP S/4HANA to process accounting tasks, review transactions, and support day-to-day financial operations. Requirements - Previous experience in a Staff Accountant or similar accounting role. - Hands-on general ledger experience is required. - Strong background preparing journal entries and account reconciliations. - Experience completing bank reconciliations and supporting month-end close procedures. - Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for analysis, reporting, and account support schedules. - Familiarity with SAP S/4HANA or comparable ERP systems. - Ability to manage multiple priorities accurately within a fast-moving retail environment.
