Job Opportunity
The City of Montebello is seeking a dedicated individual for the role of Lateral Police Officer Incentive Program. This position offers a competitive salary range of $100,608.00 - $125,646.00 annually and is located at 1600 W. Beverly Blvd., Montebello, CA. This job posting may be closed at any time without notice. MPOA members will receive a 5% increase in July 2025&a 2.5% in July 2026. Additionally, there is a Lateral Police Officer Incentive Program of $10,000.00 available. Under general direction, the successful candidate will perform responsible law enforcement and crime prevention work by patrolling assigned areas and answering calls and complaints; investigating incidents and crimes; making physical arrests; and performing related work as required.Key responsibilities include: Performing patrol on an assigned shift Conducting property checks on businesses and homes for burglary and other criminal activities Stopping and questioning suspicious persons Assisting with a variety of emergencies Issuing citations for violations of laws Preparing reports of incidents and investigationsContacting victims, witnesses, complainants, and suspects for detailed interviewing when required Securing statements and preserving evidence at the scenes of incidents and crimes Following-up on investigations when assigned Making arrests of criminals Appearing in court proceedings when summonedBooking, transporting, and ensuring the care and safety of detained persons Issuing traffic citations and performing traffic control assignments Performing accident investigations Performing a wide range of law enforcement assignments Making initial and supplementary investigation of crimes in areas such as personal violence, theft, checks, intelligence, juvenile, narcotics, and othersInvestigating cases involving missing persons, lost children, and runaways Collecting material evidence and doing crime scene work Performing surveillance of persons and places Apprehending, interrogating, and arresting suspects Preparing and submitting reports Requirements include: Possession of a basic certificate issued by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and TrainingPossession of an appropriate California driver's license Training and experience should provide the required knowledge and abilities. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Education: Graduation from high school or G.E.D. is required, supplemented by college course work from an accredited college or university in police science or related field.Work Background: Entry Level requires one year of non-sworn California law enforcement experience with concurrent employment by a law enforcement agency or have a separation date of one year or less and be eligible for rehire.
