Job Summary

Position Summary:

The Accounting Manager supports the financial operations of the school district by overseeing the daily activities of the accounting team, supervising complex financial processes, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory and reporting standards. This position is responsible for reviewing and validating the work of Accountant I and II roles, managing financial reporting, ensuring fiscal integrity, and supporting the strategic financial goals of the district.

Qualifications: Master's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field Minimum of five years of progressive experience in governmental accounting or school finance Demonstrated experience in supervising accounting staff and managing complex financial operations Deep knowledge of GAAP, governmental accounting standards, and state/local financial regulationsProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and financial management software Fingerprint clearance with the Alabama State Department of Education prior to the start date Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Supervise the daily operations of the district's accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, and general ledger maintenance Review and validate financial transactions, reports, reconciliations, and journal entries completed by the accounting team Ensure accuracy and compliance in all financial reports submitted to the Alabama State Department of Education and the BoardOversee the development and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports Assist the CSFO in budget preparation, monitoring, and variance analysis across all departments Identify discrepancies and trends in financial performance and recommend corrective actions as needed Lead preparation and response efforts for internal and external audits, ensuring audit readiness and implementing corrective actionsSupport implementation of financial procedures, systems, and internal controls to improve efficiency and safeguard assets Provide training, support, and performance feedback to accounting staff to ensure adherence to policies Analyze financial data to assist the CSFO with long-range planning and forecastingOversee the integration and use of accounting software and reporting tools, ensuring data accuracy and timely system updates Investigate discrepancies, potential fraud, or financial misappropriation and report findings to the CSFO Serve as liaison between accounting staff and other district departments, vendors, and auditorsPerform other duties as assigned by the Chief School Financial Officer Required Skills and Competencies:

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee must also talk, hear, stand, and walk.
