The School

Having surpassed our 50th year of educating nurses in this community, we are proud to be acknowledged in the top 10 Nursing programs in the country. The School offers a variety of campus-based programs, fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and approved by the California State Board of Registered Nursing (BRN). These include a traditional pre-licensure BSN, post-licensure BSN, and MSN-Family Nurse Practitioner, requiring a full spectrum of teaching content and expertise across multiple modalities. We are in the process of developing a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program. Students are educated to practice in a variety of settings, including community health agencies, advanced practice settings, and acute care settings, with a focus on underserved communities. Active community partnerships support consistent clinical rotation sites for students and offer additional service-learning opportunities, yielding mutually beneficial experiences for agency, student, and faculty. Duties of the Position

Instructors appointed to the part-time temporary lecturer pool may be assigned to part-time, temporary and/or substitute openings in the for any program in the School. Appointments are generally by semester, and subsequent appointments are not guaranteed. Duties for Nursing pool instructors include roles and responsibilities that support the tenure/tenure track faculty leads of programs in:
Providing effective classroom, clinical or laboratory instruction using methods and materials appropriate to the subject matter and learners.
Preparing and grading class assignments and examinations.
Assisting and evaluating students, supporting students with accommodations, evaluating learning outcomes and maintaining regular office hours.
Participating in program activities including curriculum and program planning, development, evaluation, and decision making as well as the development of new teaching-learning methods and materials as outlined by the Board of Registered Nursing and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
Contributing to development of program policies and procedures.
Representing program, maintaining, and developing clinical partnerships for the hospital/community/primary care placements as an ambassador for positive representation of Sonoma State University School of Nursing.
Meeting with managers and staff in agencies for orientation and coordination of instruction.
Ongoing evaluation of student clinical competencies following course and program objectives and adhering to policies and procedures.
Ensuring that all records are collected and maintained as required by CA BRN, CCNE, and University policies.
Participating in course, team, program and departmental meetings and professional development activities in a constructive and collaborative manner.
Maintaining accurate and timely student records as required.
Maintaining currency and depth of knowledge in assigned content and or practice area of responsibility.
Maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to collaborate and receptive to feedback.

Required Qualifications

To be recommended for appointment, the candidate must have:
UNDERGRADUATE TEACHING REQUIREMENTS

Prelicensure:
A Bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing (Master's preferred) and one (1) year of full-time continuous experience in the last five (5) years as a Registered Nurse providing direct patient care in the area assigned to teach or one (1) academic year of RN-level clinical teaching experience in the designated nursing area; and
Current and unencumbered RN license issued by the CA BRN
Appointment is subject to CA BRN approval
Current and valid CPR/BLS certification and immunizations as required by the clinical agency
Demonstrates sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of college students and the campus community.

Post-licensure:
A Bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing (Master's preferred) and one (1) one year of related professional experience
Current and unencumbered RN license issued by the CA BRN
Current and valid CPR/BLS certification
Demonstrates sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of college students and the campus community.

GRADUATE LEVEL TEACHING REQUIREMENTS
FNP Program:
A Master's or Doctorate degree in Nursing or related field and national certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner; and
At least (1) one year of current and related nurse practitioner experience
Current and unencumbered RN and NP license issued by the CA BRN
Current and valid CPR/BLS certification
Demonstrates sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of college students and the campus community.

Rank and Salary

Full-time is a 15-unit workload per semester. Actual salary is dependent upon the number of units assigned, educational preparation, and availability of funds subject to any CSU system faculty contract salary increases.
Salary commensurate with degree level and experience.
Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,507 - $6,677 per full-time month.
The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salary range indicated above is prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.
Selection as a candidate in the applicant pool, does not guarantee employment. Temporary Faculty appointments are made on a part-time, temporary basis and contingent upon department needs and funding.
Temporary Faculty appointments are made on a semester-by-semester basis.
Relocation expenses will not be provided for temporary faculty appointments.
Expenses incurred to attend an interview for temporary faculty positions are not reimbursed by the University.
