Role Overview
Sonoma Wealth Advisors
is a fully integrated wealth management firm where tax, financial planning, investment management, and business advisory work together.
We're hiring a
Senior Tax Manager
to lead the tax function across a distributed team.
This role is central to how work gets done and how clients are served.
You'll guide complex tax work, support and develop the team, and partner closely with advisors so tax is part of a coordinated strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the tax function
Oversee day-to-day tax operations across locations with accountability for quality and delivery
Manage workflow so returns are completed accurately and on time
Partner with leadership on hiring, performance, and team development
Develop the team
Mentor tax professionals and administrative staff
Support growth while maintaining strong standards and accountability
Own technical quality
Review complex individual, corporate, partnership, and fiduciary returns
Prepare returns for high-net-worth individuals and business clients as needed
Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and stay current on tax law changes
Advise clients and collaborate
Work directly with clients on tax strategy, planning, and compliance
Provide guidance on multi-state filings, entity structuring, and business transitions
Partner with financial advisors and planners to deliver coordinated recommendations
Improve operations
Oversee scheduling, workflow systems, and processes
Identify ways to improve efficiency and contribute to broader planning initiatives
Qualifications
Required
Active CPA or EA license
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Minimum 5 years of progressive tax experience, including supervisory responsibility
Experience in tax preparation and review for individuals and businesses
Preferred
Master's degree in taxation or related field
Experience managing teams across multiple locations
Familiarity with tax software such as Lacerte, UltraTax, ProSeries, or similar
Comfortable working in a collaborative, cross-functional environment

Compensation is competitive and designed to reward performance.
Base salary: $120,000 to $160,000, depending on experience and location
Performance-based bonus: approximately $10,000 to $25,000
