Job Title: Material Handler

Job Description

As a Material Handler, you will be responsible for handling various types of materials such as pipes, fittings, vents, valves, and insulation, ensuring their safe delivery to designated areas. This role requires physical stamina and the ability to work in diverse environments, including open, confined, and elevated spaces on board ships.

Responsibilities

  • Bend, stoop, lift, manipulate, and place materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Deliver materials to open spaces, confined spaces, and spaces at extreme heights on board ships.
  • Walk, climb, crawl, bend, squat, and stand for 8 hours per day.
  • Work in various work environments, including shipboard and shop environments.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to read and write.
  • Basic mathematics skills.
  • Customer service orientation.
  • Energetic, dependable, and reliable.
  • Knowledge of material storage and material picking systems.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, particularly SAP and Warehouse Management Systems.
  • Experience in warehousing, logistics, and forklift operation.
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Work Environment

Work will be conducted in a shipyard environment, which is the largest shipbuilding company in the world, located in Southeast Virginia. The yard stretches over 5 miles long, and conditions can be hot and muggy in the summer and cool during the winter. Work will be performed on a Navy vessel or in a shop environment. Candidates must be able to work any shift, including 1st shift (7am-3:30pm), 2nd shift (3:30pm-11pm), and 3rd shift (11pm-7am).

This is a Contract position based out of Newport News, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.36 - $27.31/hr.
