The Town of Brewster is currently seeking applications for the position of Laborer or Skilled Laborer/CDL Driver for the Department of Public Works. The position performs semi-skilled and skilled manual work supporting construction, general operation&maintenance, and repair projects undertaken by the DPW.

Under the general direction of the DPW Director and the direct supervisor of DPW Forman, the Laborer performs landscaping duties for all Town owned properties, including mowing, weed whacking, mulching, raking, pruning shrubs, and tree trimming. Also assists with general maintenance of the roadways including catch basin cleaning and asphalt repairs including cold patching. Operates a variety of equipment, hand tools, and machinery. The Skilled Laborer/CLD Driver duties also include operating a variety of light and heavy equipment to support construction projects, and operating CDL vehicles or equipment to transport equipment and materials to various locations.

Both positions are key participants in Public Works snow&ice operations and are subject to occasional mandatory overtime.

High School diploma or equivalent and one - three years’ experience in grounds and/or roadway maintenance preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid driver’s license required. The Town provides training and advancement opportunities based on licensing. The ideal candidate will be a team player with strong general maintenance skills and a desire to learn new skills.

This is a full-time, year-round 40 hour a week position covered by the Service Employees International Union agreement with a pay range of $25.54 - $34.25 per hour, starting pay dependent on qualifications, experience, and licenses.
