Seasonal Grounds/Maintenance Worker

Hoquiam School District No. 28 Position Open Until Filled - First Screening Date: 4/13/26 Days/Hours: Monday - Friday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM Proposed Start Date: June 22, 2026 Note - Three positions available Required Attachments: Cover Letter or Letter of Interest Resume 3 Letters of Recommendation - Including at least one from a supervisorSpecific Duties and Responsibilities

Assist in maintaining school grounds, ensuring a clean, safe, and inviting environment that promotes outdoor learning and play Organize and maintain outdoor areas to support student recreation and school pride Assist in basic building maintenance, supporting the daily functioning of learning spacesAdaptive Pathways

Implement flexible maintenance schedules based on weather, school events, or district needs Operate a variety of tools and equipment safely and adapt tasks based on seasonal work demands Work independently with efficiency and good judgment Community Connections

Keep school grounds and landscaping well-maintained to reflect pride in the district and community Safely operate district vehicles and equipment when transporting materials and supplies to and from various school sites Attend district-directed meetings or trainings to align with district-wide safety and maintenance practicesTechnical Duties

Perform mowing, edging, weeding, raking, and other landscaping tasks Operate and maintain power tools and equipment (e.g., mowers, weed eaters, chainsaws, tillers) Transport and operate riding lawnmowers, tractors, and trailers Maintain an organized, safe, and efficient work and storage area Assist with seasonal building upkeep as neededWorking Conditions

Outdoor work during spring and summer months with exposure to varying weather conditions Regular exposure to noise and chemicals/cleaning solvents Must be physically capable of performing moderately strenuous tasks in outdoor environments Essential Functions

Maintain consistent and punctual attendance Stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, squat, and climb ladders safely Lift, push, and pull items up to 75 pounds Operate mechanical and powered lift devices Reach and handle tools with dexterity Interact respectfully with staff, students, and community membersExercise sound judgment and common sense in all work activities Follow all District safety policies and procedures Understand and comply with all product SDS (Safety Data Sheets) Minimum Qualifications

One year of relevant work experience in grounds, building, or equipment maintenance preferred Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work Valid Washington State driver's license with a clean driving record Proof of U.S. citizenship or work authorization Current First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtainSalary: $17.13 an hour Benefits: One hour of sick leave for every forty (40) hours worked. Employment is contingent upon successful clearance of a Washington State Patrol, FBI fingerprint criminal history background check, and Sexual Misconduct background check.
