The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for
Fire&Life Safety Inspector 2, Risk Management [R0151986]
ROLE of the POSITION
The incumbent will conduct initial and follow-up fire and life safety inspections; Prepare written reports and forward to the State of Nevada Fire Marshal's Office, Building Proctor, Fire and Life Safety Manager; Ensure that work orders are submitted on the violations that were documented in the inspection report; May conduct site inspections with OSH representative and with State and Local Fire Inspectors; May assist the FM Fire Shop on the testing and inspection of fire protection systems; Ensure that all fire protection systems are inspected and tested in accordance with established fire code and standards, properly documented and deficiencies are corrected; Conduct follow-up inspections at reasonable time frame allowing for corrections to be made: Prepare weekly report; Attend team meetings and local organization meetings building networking; Coordinate joint inspections with other organizations such as State Fire Inspectors, Clark County, Las Vegas and Henderson Fire Departments. Working knowledge of the CHIMERA fire inspection program with all inspections entered in a timely manner. Ensure that facilities and buildings have current evacuation and fire/safety plans; Ensure that required evacuation/fire drills are conducted and documented. Assist in the development of the fire/safety plans. Witness evacuation drills and record all drills when conducted. Assist in plan review of building and fire protection system drawings; respond to emergencies involving fire, explosions, or hazardous materials incidents. Conduct fire extinguishers and safety training. Attend training opportunities maintaining education and knowledge related to fire and life safety such as building construction, fire protection systems, plan review, public education and fire inspection techniques.
The work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in fire science, chemistry, environmental science or closely related field which included a minimum of 9 credits in hazardous waste, chemistry, environmental science or toxicology related courses, and one year of experience performing hazardous materials inspections, hazardous materials site remediation, or hazardous materials consultation; OR one year of experience as a Fire&Life Safety Inspector I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, all positions in this series have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this series must submit to a pre-employment screening test for controlled substances. A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting is required. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.For appointment to the Fire&Life Safety Inspector II, certification at the Hazardous Materials Awareness level, issued by the Nevada State Fire Marshal, is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. For appointment to the Fire&Life Safety Inspector II, Certification as a Nevada State Fire Inspector I, National Fire Protection Association Fire Inspector I, or as a Fire Inspector I with the International Code Council is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. SALARY
Salary Range is Grade 33, Step 1, $59,257.44 to Grade 33, Step 10, $87,570.72.
In accordance with Nevada Administrative Code (NAC) 284.170, initial appointments to classified positions typically begin at Step 1 of the assigned grade. A "Step" refers to the specific rate of pay within a grade, as determined by the Division of Human Resources. Salary placement above Step 1 requires the incumbent to meet education and/or experience thresholds and prior approval from Human Resources
