Position Overview:
Principal Electrical Engineer to lead electrical engineering activities in the development, optimization, and implementation of complex multi-discipline projects. The Principal Electrical Engineer will be responsible for ensuring all electrical aspects of our projects meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency. Key Responsibilities:
Project Development and Design:
Lead electrical engineering activities across a range of projects within the energy industry, including oil and gas upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors.
Design industrial power system distributions, electrical lighting, and grounding systems, including providing single-line diagrams, load calculations, and short circuit calculations.
Develop preliminary and detailed One-line diagrams, load calculations, cable and conduit plans, wiring diagrams, panel drawings, grounding, lighting, and Title 24 compliance documentation.
Engineering Leadership:
Serve as the engineer of record for California projects, ensuring compliance with local regulations and standards.
Contribute to the development of proposals by defining the scope of work and providing engineering estimates for electrical engineering and design deliverables.
Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and professional growth.
Vendor and Client Interaction:
Work with vendors to obtain preliminary quotes for project equipment and materials.
Travel to clients' facilities as needed for project support, proposal activities, field data collection, bid walks, and project meetings.
Collaborate effectively with clients, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure project success.
Quality and Compliance:
Ensure all designs adhere to the latest industry standards and U.S./California codes, including NEC and CEC.
Conduct short circuit calculations and analyses, and provide motor schematic diagrams and electric heat tracing designs.
Stay current with advancements in electrical engineering technologies and industry trends to incorporate best practices into project work.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of 15 years of experience in the energy industry, specifically within oil and gas upstream, midstream, and downstream projects, and other processing facilities.
Licensing: A valid California P.E. license is required.
Technical Expertise: Strong technical knowledge of electrical engineering and design, including proficiency in short circuit study software (e.g., ETAP) and lighting design software (e.g., Visual Lighting or DIAlux).
Software Skills: General knowledge of Autodesk Software or Bluebeam for preparing digital sketches; excellence in AutoCAD is a plus.
Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with PIP Standards and Industry Practices and Standards.
Communication: Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively at all organizational levels.
Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
Preferred Experience:
Familiarity with industry regulations, such as NEC and CEC, and their application to electrical engineering projects.
Experience in leading teams and managing client relationships in an engineering consulting environment.
