Kforce has a client in Phoenix, AZ that is seeking a Senior Automation Controls Engineer for a hybrid role. This role will support advanced manufacturing systems. We are working directly with the Hiring Manager on this exclusive search assignment. Summary: This role focuses on the design, development, commissioning, and support of automated manufacturing equipment. The Engineer will work across electrical design, PLC/HMI software development, system integration, startup, and ongoing optimization, collaborating closely with internal teams, vendors, and maintenance. Responsibilities:

  • Design and support electrical and controls systems (PLCs, drives, HMIs, power, instrumentation, motor controls)
  • Develop and deploy custom Allen Bradley PLC logic and HMI integrations
  • Partner with process engineers to improve and optimize existing equipment
  • Support equipment specification, build, commissioning, validation, and troubleshooting
  • Work with vendors on new equipment and system modifications
  • Create and maintain electrical and software documentation
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics or related discipline or equivalent work experience
  • At least 5+ years of automation engineering experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment
  • At least 3+ years PLC programming experience (ladder logic, HMI integration)
  • Experience with PLC programming/development from scratch (Allen Bradley is preferred but will consider Wonderware and Schneider as well or others)
  • Experience with industrial drives, controls, and machine safety standards
  • Working knowledge of NEC requirements is preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple technical priorities and projects.
  • Ability to read schematics.
  • Up to 10% travel
  • Experience out of Highly Regulated Industries such as Aerospace, Defense/Military, Pharmaceutical, Medical Device, Automotive, semiconductor industries would be a plus
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Allen Bradley drives, temperature controllers, and robotics experience
  • Hands-on electrical design for manufacturing equipment
  • ECAD experience (AutoCAD Electrical preferred or similar Electrical CAD package)
  • Working knowledge of electrical code and standards for industrial equipment design
