Senior Research Scientist
Individuals applying for this position must have an MD or PhD in immunology or a related field. Must have relevant training and/or experience in cellular immunology and molecular biology in murine models, in addition to experience in bioinformatics. Individuals should have analytical and critical thinking skills and strong written and oral communication skills.Job Summary: Serves as subject matter expert and conducts independent scientific research projects from inception to presentation. Prepares and crafts various complex documentations of research results into manuscripts, proposals, grant applications, and presentations. Trains undergraduates, junior lab members, and research technicians. Manages laboratory policies and coordinates high-level work and project development in collaboration with other specialists.Essential Functions: The appointee will work closely with Dr. Rothstein and other members of his lab group and will be expected to engage in active collaboration with other scientists within the STI and the Department of Immunology. The appointee will participate in NIH funded projects on novel aspects of B cell biology and regulatory B cells (Bregs) that include: The role of certain transcription factors in inducing TIM-1+ Bregs; the regulatory role of plasma cells vs. B cells; and the role of Bregs in control of the germinal center response. The projects utilize various novel genetically modified strains of mice in autoimmune and allograft models and approaches include analysis of the transcriptome /chromatin accessibility of cells at population and single cell levels. The appointee will also perform wet-bench immunology experiments and be a bioinformatics resource for the Starzl Transplantation Institute. In addition, the appointee will also present findings at local, national, or international conferences and will assist with manuscript preparation for publication in peer-reviewed journals.Physical Effort: Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods.
