Motor Vehicle Operator

To provide transportation and patient care for patients traveling to treatment sites within the community and other VA Medical Centers. Major duties and responsibilities include: Operate light duty vehicles such as Sedans, mini vans, 8 passenger vans, pickup trucks, light duty construction utility vehicles, and patient transport vehicles to pick up and transport patients under nonemergency conditions from one location to another such as from an airport to a hospital or from one hospital to another.Drive on public roads at controlled speeds to ensure the patient's comfort. Secures cargo to prevent damage to contents during transport and ensures that the vehicle is not loaded beyond the maximum capacity. Refuels vehicles as needed prior to transport. Protects materials, supplies and equipment from the elements.Vehicle transport includes medical and office supplies, equipment, and mail over Federal, State and Country roads in all traffic conditions, on specific trip assignments or regularly established schedules. Performs routine safety and maintenance checks on the vehicle to include, but not limited to, the addition of fuels or lubricants and the checking of tire pressure.Maintains cleanliness and professional appearance of both the in and outside of the vehicle. Completes all maintenance service records to document activities. Provides courtesy rides to staff, Veterans, and visitors as needed to and from parking lots or garages and/or to and from buildings on the facility campus.Assists in areas like the warehouse to receive, store, and move materials and equipment. Performs other related duties as assigned. DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Interchange Agreements with Other Merit System: Employees who occupy medical or medical-related positions and were appointed under 38 U.S.C. 4701(1) or (3) [formerly 38 U.S.C. 4104 (1) and (3)] must be serving in a full-time position without time limit and have served continuously for at least one year in this other merit system to be eligible to convert to the Title 5 System. Some exceptions to this rule may apply if you have previously acquired tenure under a Title 5 appointment.Current and former Federal employees must submit copies of their most recent SF-50, (Notice of Personnel Action). The SF-50 must identify the position title, series, grade, step, tenure and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). In some cases, more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held.
