JOB DESCRIPTION
Seeking 1099 Independent Contractors
Pay- This opportunity offers flexible engagements and payments. There will be multiple assignments, with each ranging from net pay to $600 - $1000 depending on the number of items authored or reviewed.
Engagement Description
The ACCUPLACER Program seeks item authors specializing in the assessment of English learners (ELs).
This role is for candidates that qualify to engage as an Independent Contractor (1099).
Successful applicants will author content for ACCUPLACER English as a Second Language (ESL) tests. Made up of four multiple-choice tests and an essay test, the ACCUPLACER ESL suite is designed to assess a wide range of English language proficiency, from beginning literacy to college and career readiness. Comprised of reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills tests, the suite assists in the placement of students into appropriate developmental ESL courses, from basic English to college readiness courses. An overview of the suite is available here.
The item authoring project, expected to last two years, will be made up of multiple phased assignments, each with a defined scope and payment plan.
Successful applicants will be directly managed and supported by a Senior Director from the Assessment Design and Development team and a Content Lead from the English Language Arts and Literacy team.
Applicants may be asked to complete a short item revision task as part of the application process.
Experience Required
You must be an experienced test developer with extensive involvement in the teaching and assessment of English learners. Specifically, we are looking for assessment experts with experience in one or more of the following contexts:
Institutions of higher education (community colleges, four-year colleges)
Adult education and literacy programs
Technical, career, and workforce education programs
To be considered for this project, you must be
an experienced test developer/item author in at least one of the following areas: ESL reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
familiar with the CEFR, NRS EFLDs, and/or other relevant frameworks for language proficiency assessment.
meticulously attentive to detail, with strong proofreading skills.
willing to perform iterative revisions of your work and accept and address constructive feedback with positivity.
Additionally, you must possess
excellent skills in process and procedure implementation, including adhering to project plans and schedules.
technical acumen and aptitude, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and comfort with browser-based applications and tools.
