Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities:

What We’re Looking For:

If you are experienced in cost management within the defense industry and have a strong background in Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) compliance, then you will be excited about the Control Account Manager (CAM) opening with Iridium on our Space Development Agency (SDA) team. As a Control Account Manager (CAM), you’ll be responsible for managing program cost control and performance monitoring. In this role, you will focus primarily on ensuring compliance with DFARS Earned Value Management (EVM) system requirements, overseeing cost and schedule performance, and aligning all financial, scheduling, and technical deliverables with program objectives. You will succeed in this role if you have a detail-oriented mindset, a thorough understanding of government contracting standards, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain cost efficiency and compliance throughout the program lifecycle.

What You’ll Do:

Be responsible for maintaining DFARS-compliant Earned Value Management System (EVMS) practices by maintaining the accuracy and integrity of cost performance data and adhering to Department of Defense (DOD) processes

Work independently to manage cost accounts, including the preparation, monitoring, and analysis of cost and schedule variances; utilize EVM metrics to track project performance and provide accurate cost forecasts

Collaborate with the Integrated Program Team (IPT), including engineering, procurement, and operations, to integrate cost and schedule data into overall program management processes

Coordinate with Agile Scrum Masters to own monthly status reports containing supporting EVM data and maintaining alignment of the EVM and Agile Process Controls

Conduct regular earned vale analyses to assess program performance, identify variances, and implement corrective actions to maintain budget and schedule adherence

Prepare and deliver earned value and cost/schedule performance reports to senior management and stakeholders, ensuring compliance with DFARS and other regulatory standards

Support internal and external audits of earned value management data, including government-mandated reviews, ensuring full compliance with contractual, regulatory, and DFARS guideline

Contribute to program risk management by identifying potential cost and schedule risks, assessing their impact, and developing and implementing mitigation strategies

Maintain accurate cost control data, including the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and cost estimates, ensuring all assumptions and performance metrics are thoroughly documented

Provide guidance and training to program staff and junior CAMs on EVM principles, DFARS requirements, and cost control best practices

Experience & Education Requirements:

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field

CAM, EVMS, or other relevant certifications preferred

8+ years of relevant experience in a CAM role in a defense or government contracting environment

Demonstrated knowledge of EVMS and DFARS (specifically 48 CFR Part 24)

Experience working with Cost Performance Reports (CPRs) and Integrated Program Management Reports (IPMRs)

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, EVM software tools (e.g. Deltek Cobra, Primavera, MS Project), and cost accounting principles

Experience with Agile tools (e.g. Jira, Confluence) and methodologies (e.g. SAFe)

In-depth understanding of Cost/Schedule Control Systems Criteria (C/SCSC) and the application of EVM

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey products, deliverables, analyses, and/or issues to groups outside of your team or those who are unfamiliar with the topic 

Have confidence and be able to easily build relationships with leadership and colleagues outside of your team 

Possess an analytical mindset, with the ability to understand a situation or problem and think critically to make decisions and come up with out-of-the-box solutions 

Be proactive in providing feedback and be enthusiastic in sharing your knowledge with others 

Capable of prioritizing your own tasks and potentially the tasks of others while making sure deadlines are met 

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

Professional certifications (PMI-SP, PMP, or EVMP)

Experience in System Engineering, Agile development, Agile Software development, Spacecraft Operations, Aerospace Systems Engineering, and/or Network Infrastructure

We’ll also need you to: 

Be able to travel up to 15%

Be a U.S. Citizen

This position primarily works in an office setting and is largely sedentary with the majority of the position working with a computer. The role typically requires the use of basic office equipment such as a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse, and printer.
