The day-to-day work involves more than just "putting pipes together." It requires blueprint literacy and physical stamina. Installation:
Measuring, cutting, threading, and grooving pipes (steel and CPVC) according to fire codes and blueprints, fabricating. System Assembly:
Installing overhead piping, fire pumps, standpipes, and various sprinkler heads (pendent, upright, and sidewall). Testing:
Conducting hydrostatic pressure tests to ensure the system is leak-proof and compliant with
NFPA 13
standards. Maintenance:
Inspecting existing systems, replacing corroded heads, and troubleshooting malfunctioning valves or backflow preventers. Safety Compliance:
Operating heavy machinery like scissor lifts and threading machines while adhering strictly to OSHA standards. You’ll be expected to master a specific kit of tools and technical concepts: Category Skills / Tools Tools of the Trade Pipe wrenches, threaders, groovers, torches, and levels. Technical KnowledgeReading blueprints, understanding hydraulic calculations, and local fire codes. Materials Black steel pipe, galvanized pipe, and CPVC (plastic) fire-rated piping. Physical&Environmental Demands This is a "boots on the ground" trade. It’s not for the faint of heart or those afraid of heights. Heights:
Much of the work is done on ladders, scaffolding, or motorized lifts near the ceiling. Strength:
You must be able to lift and maneuver heavy lengths of steel pipe (often 50+ lbs).
We are hiring experienced and inexperienced and willing to train as well!
