Safety Specialist, Virginia

PGS Worldwide is seeking a detail-oriented and driven Senior Safety Specialist to support one of our key defense manufacturing partners in Radford, Virginia. In this critical role, you'll lead and support occupational safety programs to ensure regulatory compliance and maintain a safe working environment across a high-risk industrial site. This is an initial 12-month contract-to-hire opportunity, and I will respond immediately to all qualified candidates.

Job Description:

Lead implementation and continuous improvement of safety programs in line with OSHA, DoD, and site-specific regulations

Conduct routine safety inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations

Support programs such as Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Confined Space Entry, Electrical Safety, Hot Work, Machine Guarding, and Walking/Working Surfaces

Collaborate closely with site operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to ensure a safety-first culture

Facilitate training and provide guidance to team members across departments on regulatory standards and safety best practices

Support root cause analysis and corrective action for safety incidents

Create and manage documentation, reports, and records using Microsoft Office and internal safety systems

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety or related field (or equivalent experience)

4+ years of safety experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment

Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety compliance programs

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Willingness to be fully on-site and actively involved on the shop floor

US Citizenship

Desired:

Experience in chemical manufacturing, defense, or heavy industry settings

Experience interpreting Department of Defense (DoD) safety regulations

Proven success leading or supporting incident investigations and root cause analyses
