Role Impact
This position leads strategic and technical efforts to maintain, upgrade, and expand a critical high-voltage electrical distribution system within a large-scale industrial utility environment. The engineer plays a vital role in supporting system reliability, facilitating increased electrification, and ensuring compliance with electrical safety and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and maintain a long-term strategic master plan for the electrical distribution system
• Serve as lead technical expert for medium voltage (600V–34.5kV) systems including substations, transformers, switchgear, and turbines
• Provide analysis and support for low voltage (110V–600V) distribution systems and equipment
• Perform power systems analysis (load flow, short circuit, arc flash) using SKM Power Tools
• Manage projects and oversee external engineers and contractors for utility and customer-driven initiatives
• Support daily operations and maintenance of low/medium voltage systems
• Coordinate technical aspects of NYISO generator modeling and interconnect operations
• Provide electrical support for building systems (HVAC, power, lighting, IT, fire safety, UPS)
• Advise on NFPA electrical safety compliance in collaboration with EHS
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
• 7–10 years in utility generation, power distribution, or energy-intensive industrial environments
• Strong background in high-voltage systems and utility interconnects
• New York State PE license required or ability to obtain
Core Tech Environment
• AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu, Maximo
• Microsoft Office (Excel, Teams)
• Navisworks
• SKM Power Tools for Windows
• Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
Preferred Skills
• Project management experience in capital projects
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Proficiency in power system modeling and analysis
