We are seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead and oversee payroll operations for a fast-paced, nationwide organization. This role plays a critical part in ensuring payroll accuracy, compliance, and efficiency while supporting the growth and well-being of team members across multiple states.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in payroll administration, team leadership, and compliance, with the ability to lead initiatives, manage special projects, and collaborate cross-functionally across departments.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee end-to-end payroll processing, including weekly check runs, direct deposits, wage garnishments, payroll taxes, and reconciliations
Lead year-end payroll functions including W-2 issuance and compliance reporting
Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local payroll regulations and labor laws
Resolve complex payroll inquiries and disputes from employees and management
Manage, mentor, and develop payroll staff and supervisors, including performance management and professional development
Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for payroll team success
Collaborate with HR, Finance, and Compliance to ensure accurate employee data and reporting
Lead payroll system optimization and process improvement projects
Present payroll data, trends, and recommendations to senior leadership
Maintain internal controls and documentation for audit readiness
Foster a team culture focused on safety, development, inclusion, and wellness
Support cross-functional business initiatives and department goals
Perform additional duties as needed
Qualifications:
5+ years of hands-on payroll experience across multi-state environments
2+ years of experience leading payroll teams or departments
Proficient in payroll law, compliance, and best practices
Strong Excel and payroll software skills (ADP, Paycom, or similar platforms)
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field preferred
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification highly desirable
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to lead in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment
Ability to travel occasionally, as needed
