Summary: The technician will perform research and development work on our insect engineering team. This will include developing a genetic biocontrol agent for Spotted Wing Drosophila and performing assortative mating studies.
Fly husbandry: keeping several fly lines alive and healthy 20%
Fly behavioral tracking using machine vision and AI: including troubleshooting assay development and data analysis: 40%
Fly engineering: molecular biology and genetics to confirm genotypes of recombinant fly lines: 30%
Communication and meeting attendance: 10% Qualifications
Required Qualifications: Currently enrolled in an undergraduate biology degree. Interest in incipient speciation High School degree or equivalent.

BMBB: The department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biophysics is committed to understanding the molecular mechanisms of metabolic diseases and cancer; developing novel strategies in biocatalysis and biotechnology; and advancing knowledge through structural biology and molecular biophysics. We organize ourselves into research divisions with emphases on Chemical and Structural Biology, Metabolic and Systems Biology, Molecular Biology and Synthetic Biology and Biotechnology. Pay Range : $15.25 - $17.00/ hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
