Sergeant - Training
The Liberty County Sheriff's Office is seeking motivated and disciplined candidates for the position of Sergeant - Training within the Bureau of Professional Standards. This position is responsible for implementing the agency's training, hiring and retention, quartermaster, and internal affairs functions.Major Duties
Develops division goals, plans, policies, and procedures. Ensures compliance with state and federal law and with county and agency policies and procedures. Makes requests for services and equipment. Completes a variety of regular and special reports. Maintains inventory logs of division vehicles and equipment.Participates in the field training of assigned personnel; monitors and coordinates employee training. Responsible for coordinating hiring efforts to include conducting background investigations for applicants. Monitors and reviews division productivity information and statistical data in order to identify problem areas and to increase efficiency and effectiveness.Conducts internal affairs investigations. Participates in the delivery of training to agency personnel; coordinates external training; delivers firearms, driving, and other required training; maintains training and certification files and records. Performs related duties. Knowledge Required by the Position
Knowledge of law enforcement administration and criminal justice system processes. Knowledge of agency and county policies and procedures and federal, state, and local guidelines. Knowledge of county geography. Knowledge of patrol, investigations, and traffic control principles. Knowledge of law enforcement training requirements.Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices. Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs. Skill in the use of firearms and restraint equipment. Skill in operating emergency vehicles. Skill in planning, organizing, directing and coordinating the work of personnel. Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.Skill in the preparation of clear and precise administrative reports. Skill in oral and written communication. Physical Demands/Work Environment
The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.The work is typically performed in an office and at incident scenes. The employee is exposed to contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and occasional inclement weather. The work requires the use of specialized law enforcement equipment and protective devices. Benefits
This is a full-time position with competitive compensation plus $100/month uniform allowance. Bachelor's degree in a course of study related to the occupational field is preferred; associate's degree or equivalent experience is required. More than four (4) years of related experience required. Possession of a valid Georgia Class C driver's license. Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the Peace Officer Standards and Training Council for the State of Georgia.
