Job Summary
The Student Assistant will support the Department of Information Technology as a Research Scholar on the Statesboro Campus beginning Summer 2026. Somatic Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (SAIL) at Georgia Southern University is seeking a highly motivated Research Scholar to contribute to an advanced computer vision and machine learning project focused on automated warehouse quality inspection systems.
Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period.
Employment is contingent upon funding.
Responsibilities
Conducts literature reviews related to computer vision, deep learning, OCR, and warehouse automation Designs and implements machine learning and deep learning models Collects, preprocess, and annotates image datasets Trains, tests, and validates computer vision models Performs experimental verification and performance evaluationDevelops prototype demonstrations and visualization tools Prepares technical reports and project documentation Presents regular progress updates to the Principal Investigator (PI) Demonstrates project outcomes to laboratory visitors, collaborators, and guests Shift Specifics
Up to 40 hours per week Flexible with schedule of availability Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Must be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University. Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Education
Graduate Student in the Information Technology program or similar programs. Preferred Experience
Strong programming skills in Python Experience with computer vision and deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, OpenCV, or YOLO Familiarity with OCR systems and image processing techniques Knowledge of machine learning model evaluation and validation Experience with dataset annotation and experimental analysisAbility to work independently and collaboratively in a research environment Proposed Salary
$15.00 per hour
This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.
