School Nurse Assistant

Reports To: Lead School Nurse / Director of Health Services / Campus Principal Department: Student Health Services Pay Grade: District Assigned Days Employed: 187 (Based on District Calendar) Primary Purpose: Assist the school nurse in providing health services to students and staff in accordance with district procedures, physician orders, and state regulations. Support compliance with requirements established by the Texas Education Agency, Texas Department of State Health Services, and other applicable federal and state laws governing student health services.Qualifications

Education/Certification

High school diploma or GED required Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or equivalent certification preferred Current CPR and First Aid certification required Medication administration training as required by district policy Certification in AED use preferredSpecial Knowledge/Skills

Knowledge of basic first aid and emergency care procedures Knowledge of pediatric health practices and medical terminology Ability to accurately maintain confidential student health records Knowledge of communicable disease control and infection prevention Ability to follow physician orders and district protocolsEffective verbal and written communication skills Ability to use computer systems and electronic medical record software Ability to work with students, parents, staff, and healthcare professionals in a professional manner Knowledge of FERPA, HIPAA, and confidentiality requirements Experience

Minimum one (1) year experience in a medical office, clinic, pediatric setting, or school health environment preferred Major Responsibilities and Duties

Clinical and Student Health Services

Assist the school nurse in managing daily clinic operations. Provide first aid and basic health care for ill or injured students and staff according to district procedures. Obtain and document vital signs including temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, height, and weight. Assist with medication administration in compliance with district policy, physician orders, and Texas law.Observe students for signs of illness, abuse, neglect, or emotional distress and report concerns to the supervising nurse or administrator. Assist in developing and implementing care plans for students with chronic medical conditions including asthma, diabetes, seizure disorders, allergies, and other health impairments.Support medically fragile students as directed by the school nurse. Assist during medical emergencies and activate EMS procedures when necessary. Maintain infection control standards and universal precautions. Health Records and Compliance

Maintain accurate, current, and confidential student health records. Verify immunization records and assist with compliance monitoring according to Texas immunization requirements. Assist with required state screenings including vision, hearing, spinal, acanthosis nigricans, and other mandated programs.Prepare and maintain reports required by district administration and state agencies. Ensure compliance with district policies and procedures related to student health services. Maintain documentation related to medications, treatments, incidents, and parent communication. Communication and Collaboration

Communicate with parents regarding illness, injury, medications, and student health concerns. Collaborate with teachers, counselors, administrators, nurses, and outside healthcare providers to support student health needs. Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development activities as assigned.Provide health education reinforcement under the direction of the school nurse. Clinic Operations

Maintain inventory of clinic supplies, medications, and equipment. Ensure clinic cleanliness, organization, and safety. Assist with campus health initiatives and emergency preparedness planning. Monitor expiration dates for medications and medical supplies. Supervisory Responsibilities
