Unit/Department Summary

Summary

The Reference and Electronic Resources Librarian is located at the University of Idaho's Moscow, Idaho campus and works under the supervision and general direction of the Director of the Law Library. This position is responsible for the Law Library's collection development operations, policies, and decisions; selects print resources for addition to the law library collection; determines appropriate disposition of free and gift materials; informs and discusses needs and selection with law faculty regarding materials to be added to the collection to support the academic progress of the College of Law and the research interests of the faculty; and reviews and oversees the operations of the Technical Services unit. In addition, this position provides reference and research support services to law school students, faculty, staff, members of the University community, and the general public; teaches Introduction to Legal Research or other research courses; prepares presentations, lectures, or other materials on specific legal research topics and use of the law library collection; and completes other duties as assigned. The Reference and Electronic Resources Librarian is expected to keep abreast of current trends and advances in all aspects of law librarianship, legal research, and legal education through active membership in professional associations. The Reference and Electronic Resources Librarian reports to the Director of the Law Library.

The College of Law and Law Library are located on the main campus of the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho. The College has a vibrant satellite campus in Boise, Idaho at which the Idaho State Law Library is located. The College of Law Library administers and manages the Idaho State Law Library pursuant to a Memorandum of Understanding with the Idaho Supreme Court. The Law Library participates in the Orbis Cascade Alliance, a consortium of 37 academic libraries in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, with access to over 28 million items.

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Degree Required Juris Doctor from ABA accredited law school Master's Degree in library or information science from ALA accredited library school Required Qualifications
