Description
The Senior Accountant will perform a variety of duties to update and maintain corporate administrative and accounting records. Duties include preparing monthly financial statements, audit schedules, filing reports with state and federal agencies, maintaining and coordinating online systems, reviewing accounting transactions to ensure accuracy of information, and other similar duties primarily to support the administrative and financial systems of the organization.
Essential Position Functions
Reconcile various general ledger accounts, prepare journal entries and schedules for monthly closings and year end audits.
Prepare monthly billing for various agencies for homeless service contracts.
Maintain records for agency housing activities, including tracking tenant movements, security deposits and landlord activity.
Review accounts payable purchase journals for proper expense coding and contract compliance.
Prepare agency, departmental, and consolidated financial statements as needed.
Perform account analysis and other accounting duties as needed.
Review Lead Representative Payee Coordinator’s work to ensure insure adherence to Organization policies.
Serve as back-up support for representative payee activities, including check request processing, bank account reconciliation and other duties of the department.
Assist with preparation and completion of audits by various agencies, including funders and Social Security.
Respond professionally and accurately to inquiries from employees and outside agencies.
Perform various other clerical duties as needed.
Perform other similar duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a related field and three years of work experience preferred.
Qualifications
Must have knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, bookkeeping and accounting cycle procedures, and procedures for Massachusetts non-profit agencies.
Strong analytical and organizational skills required.
Excellent computer skills required, including Microsoft office. Blackbaud experience preferred.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, which include the ability to effectively convey information to others.
Keen attention to detail and ability to be accurate.
Ability to identify errors and solve problems.
Ability to manage time and meet deadlines.
Visual acuity to written and computer screen data.
Manual coordination and dexterity to operate office equipment.
