General Summary
The Medical Assistant operates within their scope to assist with patient care duties delegated by clinical staff. The ideal candidate is organized, professional, detail-oriented, and able to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining excellent customer service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Adhere to established safety protocols including infection control and safe patient handling. Provide direct patient interaction such as escorting patients, obtaining vital signs, performing EKGs, and verifying medical histories and medications. Document patient information accurately and promptly in electronic health records.Manage phone communications, route messages, and assist with patient inquiries and test result follow-ups. Support medication renewals, authorizations, and administration (oral, IM, SQ) as ordered. Perform point-of-care lab testing and collect specimens for laboratory analysis. Schedule appointments, procedures, and surgeries as directed by providers.Complete necessary paperwork including prior authorizations and referrals efficiently. Maintain exam room supplies and cleanliness, ensuring readiness for patient visits. Educate patients on electronic health record portals and assist with enrollment. Assist in training and orienting new medical assistants.Demonstrate accountability, teamwork, adaptability, and maintain punctuality and attendance standards. Education
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Medical Specialist program is required, or equivalent experience. A high school diploma is mandatory.
Experience
At least one year of experience as a Medical Assistant or similar role is preferred, especially within a clinical setting.
Certification and Licenses
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential from an accredited organization such as AMT is preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.
Mental and Physical Requirements
This position requires significant mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 pounds, frequent walking, standing, and various movements such as bending and reaching.
Working Conditions
Exposure to infectious diseases and occasional challenging interactions with patients may occur. The role involves handling blood and bodily fluids with appropriate precautions.
