Job Overview
The Supervisor Transportation is responsible for supervising the driver workforce and coordinating the daily operations (driver, routing, field trips and vehicle activities) necessary to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable transportation services to and from school as well as related activities while maintaining a harmonious relation with transportation staff, district administrators, teachers, coaches and community members.
Under general supervision of the Transportation Assistant Director, the incumbent will perform a variety of administrative functions relating to the safe transport of regular and special education students.
Position Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operation
Plan and implement bus routes and resolves problems related to transportation of regular and/or special education students
Audit bus routes/bus schedules as well as changes to bus routes/ bus schedules and communicate changes to drivers, campuses, parents and students
Review and resolve parent and/or driver complaints related to bus transportation
Responsible for the assignment/distribution of work, routes, and buses to meet the needs of the operation with emphasis on safety, cost control, and responsiveness to operational needs
Review and evaluate work of assigned personnel including bus drivers, bus monitors, and direct subordinates in planning work assignments, regularly observe their work performance, resolve personnel problems, make decisions concerning assignment/reassignments
As assigned, investigate bus accidents/personal injuries and document findings, fill out proper documentation and distribute to authorized district personnel in accordance to Fort Bend ISD Policies & Procedures
Audit the efficiency of the operation, ensure On-Time Performance by accessing district provided resources such as Routing Software, GPS Tracking System, Payroll reports, and/or other management software/data to approve/denied/modify/adjust schedules accordingly
Participate in personnel functions (e.g. recruitment, screening, interviewing, hiring, evaluations, etc. of department staff) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, matching staff to students needs and ensuring that objectives of regular and special education programs are met
Assist with the presentation of information on programs, services, regulations, etc. for the purpose of serving as a resource for peers, parents and school personnel
Schedule, coordinate, and assign field trips, tutorials, etc. to bus drivers
Coordinate and/or assist with extra-curricular transportation with coaching staff
Provide training on the usage of the field trip request system and processes
Act as a substitute bus driver as needed
Administrative
Investigate, document, manage and resolve complaints and concerns from campus administrators and/or parents, relative to the transport of regular and/or special ed students in regards to driver/monitor concerns, student behavior issues and take corrective action in accordance to Fort Bend ISD Policies & Procedures
Enhance communication within Transportation, the District and the community pertaining to the operation through publication of newsletters and the development of manual and procedures
Optimize routing and asset utilization by ensuring route efficiency and the effective use of the fleet vehicles by collecting and auditing data relevant to the operation, managing direct and indirect hours, minimizing overtime hours
Prepare and submit required reports in a timely manner and assist in the yearly preparation of State Route Service Report and Operations Cost Report
Attend professional development training programs/meetings to keep abreast of developments in innovations in the area of transportation
Ensure that transportation key performance indicators data is collected and recorded accordingly and in a timely manner
Schedule periodic school site visits and road observation of drivers/monitors to ensure compliance with established procedures
Interact with parents and student advocates of students with disabilities for the purpose of defining and implementing services addressing the unique need of each qualifying student by attending Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) meetings as required and providing input on Student's Individual Education Plan (IEP), Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) pertaining to transportation needs
Collaborate with District personnel and peers for the purpose of implementing and maintaining transportation services that conform to established guidelines
Present professional development as needed to Special Education staff to better serve our student population
Input and track field trips from school administration and coaching staff
Review and explain field trip policies and procedures to all drivers as needed
Maintain data base system insuring that each driver and trip is charged and billed accordingly as well as driver payroll
Gather key information such as activity budget codes in order to bill accordingly
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate the work of all regular and special ed assigned personnel, minimizing overtime
Evaluate the performance of all direct-report personnel on a regular basis according to Fort Bend ISD Policies & Procedures
Supervise compliance with Fort bend ISD Policies & Procedures by action and speech.
Discuss any breech of Policy & Procedure noted with the Operations Manager
Administer appropriate employee discipline as necessary in accordance with Fort Bend ISD Policies & Procedures
Supervise personnel for the purpose of assuring the development and implementation of services based on student needs
Qualification Requirements

High School diploma or GED Required
Bachelor's degree Preferred
Texas CDL Driver's License, Class A or B, with P and S endorsements Or must be able to attain within 120 days of hired date
Pass an Annual Physical Per (DOT) Department of Transportation
Texas School Bus Driver Certification or obtain within 120 days
Texas Association for Pupil Transportation Certification (TAPT) Certified or willing to obtain certification as Pupil Transportation Official, Supervisor, Specialist or Trainer
Must complete Supervisor Training- Drug Detection and Deterrence as required by CFR 49 Part 40 within one year of employment
Must complete two-day Vehicle Collision Investigation through TASB within one year of employment
Minimum of 3 years in the transportation industry in a lead or supervisory role, preferred
Ability to work effectively with campus principals, staff, students, and parents
Strong organization skills and group presentation skills
Excellent interpersonal skills and well developed written and verbal communication skills
Possess a mechanical aptitude and strong leadership skills
Computer literate, preferable in word processing, power point and spreadsheets
Basic math skills, detail orientation, mapping and routing skills

Additional Information
Condition include operating in inclement weather, heat and humidity, enduring a bumpy ride, and exposure to possible injury due to traffic accidents.
Must be physically able to climb in and out of the school bus emergency doors to evacuate the bus in an emergency.
There is considerable exposure to dust, traffic fumes, and high noise level from both outside traffic as well as from passengers.
Due to the nature of the position, being available after hours, weekends, and holidays is required.
"On call" situations are to be expected.
