Not all items below are required. Some are nice to have, but here’s what I’ve shared with recruiters for other similar positions.

1. Are you familiar with BOM structures in SAP or other MRP systems?

a. Using the acronyms will help you gauge their understanding

b. BOM – bill of materials

c. SAP is a database/application we use to store all our part information, structure of subcomponents in a product, create purchase orders, track materials through our processes and warehouse.

d. MRP – Material requirements planning (also called ERP – enterprise resource planning). SAP is one example of this.

2. Have they been a part of or led a project with a PCBA spin or mechanical mold change?

a. PCBA spin – a change to electrical printed circuit board assembly (PCBA). We do the design but not the actual fabrication or board assembly.

b. Mold change – Very simplified version - We work with vendors to create metal molds/shells. Melted plastic is poured in and cooled. The parts are then popped out.

3. How many people are on your typical project team? We usually have 5-15.

4. We are hybrid. Can they talk to experience with partial remote teams?

5. Can they talk to experience in a highly regulated environment? Medical is ideal.

This position will manage design changes and documentation updates needed to support product maintenance. An individual in this role will lead cross functional teams in engineering assignments, on a task-by-task basis and independently plan, execute and direct cross functional engineering projects.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

I would prefer someone with a technical background or someone who has experience leading changes to tangible products. This is opposed to someone who has led software only projects.
