Job Summary
The plant electrician will be a key member of the Company's Operations and Maintenance team, responsible for the installation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting and repair of the plant's industrial electrical equipment.
Reporting directly to the Electrical and Controls Manager.
The group operates under a flat structure, and the successful candidate will have regular visibility and direct access to the Director of Operations.
The successful candidate will be a critical member of the team, ensuring the successful execution of providing our customers with steam and chilled water on a 24/7/365 basis.
Electricians work 8-hour shifts Monday through Friday.
The successful candidate will also be expected to work well as part of a team.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter that enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, strong commitment to deadlines and team, is process oriented with a high sense of ownership in their work, possesses a high degree of intellectual curiosity, and has a superior knowledge of steam and chilled water systems.
Core Responsibilities
Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics, and electrical code specifications to determine layout of industrial electrical equipment installations
Install, examine, replace, or repair electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, fiber-optic and coaxial cable assemblies, lighting fixtures and other electrical components
Test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage and resistance
Maintain, repair, install and test switchgear, VFD's, motor starters, disconnects, transformers, switchboard meters, regulators, and protective relays.
Maintain, repair, test and install electrical motors, generators, alternators, and UPS systems
Utilize a preventive maintenance program to complete tasks and keep maintenance records
Effectively communicate and work collaboratively at all levels of the organization in diverse work group settings and in concert with external resources.
Effectively use a variety of media (i.e., MS office suite, ) to convey technical data, concepts, and ideas.
Read complex schematics, wiring diagrams and shop drawings for the purpose of installation, troubleshooting, and repairing of major systems and minor subsystems and components
Connects, disconnects, and tags out equipment and circuits for test or repair and safety of personnel and equipment
Perform installations in compliance with the national electrical
Performs basic mechanical repairs as required
Maintains shop and storage areas in a neat and orderly
Maintains the safe and efficient use of materials, tools, test equipment and personal safety and all others working in the vicinity.
Cleans work area after work is
Complies with plant policy and procedures, particularly those involving personnel and equipment safety.
Maintains regular and punctual attendance

Professional Experience & Knowledge:
Journeyman experience or the completion of an apprenticeship
Knowledge of electrical systems, hand tools, and industrial
Awareness of national, state, and local electrical codes and
Strong verbal and written communication

Willing to perform physically demanding tasks, such as lifting heavy objects, climbing ladders, crawling, etc.

Current City of Syracuse Masters Electrician license is a plus
Self-motivated and proactive, with respect to both managing workload and professional
Ability to work in a dynamic, complex, fast-paced environment, to adapt quickly and to manage changing priorities.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to work in tight spaces and elevated positions: twisting, turning, bending, and holding arms at / above the head are all common movements; able to lift up to 100lbs.
Must be able to clearly see and differentiate all colors
Must be able to maintain standard threshold of hearing to safely perform job duties
Must have good eyesight, hearing and manual dexterity
Wear all types of PPE including hearing protection, eye protection, all types of hand protection, steel toe footwear, head protection, wear fall-protection, half-face and full-face respirators
Conditions of Employment:
Valid New York State Driver's License
Only authorized employees are permitted to use company vehicles, this includes Industrial trucks (forklifts, scissor lifts, etc.) and electric vehicles/golf carts.
To be an authorized employee, you must be at least 21 years old, hold a current valid State Drivers' license and demonstrate a clean driving record.
The driver must be on an approved list for company insurance purposes.
Your driving record will be screened as part of the pre-employment process and annually in December.
All certifications/licenses must be up to date
