Definition Definition:
Under the direct supervision of the Security Supervisor or designee, performs a variety of safety and security functions in screening visitors to the court facility, responding to inquiries and providing other security functions based on situational needs. Maintains a security station and/or patrols the Court Building to prevent unauthorized activity; assists in other security activities as assigned.
This job class is treated as FLSA non-exempt. Essential Functions:

Examples of Tasks Tasks: Screens and monitors visitors, litigants and others entering the Court facility. Guards and patrols SRPMIC Court Building, to ensure that unauthorized persons do not enter; prevents vandalism to equipment, buildings and other property; reports any unusual activities to proper authorities; notifies the Fire Department in case of fire and Police Department in case of criminal activity;Assists in security for weekday and weekend Court Hearings; makes periodic tours of the premises inspecting courtrooms, protection devices, fire control equipment and checking for any other irregularities; check that courtrooms doors are securely closed and locked and rechecks them on a periodic basis; checks all doors and windows to ensure that they are securely closed and locked; monitors metal detector at Court Building entrance; activates prescribed alarm system at end of shift.Maintains various records and documents/logs nightly activities, prepares reports and may perform miscellaneous clerical, simple maintenance and comparable duties. Assists in staffing security station and detection equipment. Performs other job related duties that facilitate and /or enhance the operation of the Department as requested by the immediate supervisor and/or Court Administrator
Knowledges, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics: Knowledge of the history, cultures, laws, rules, customs and traditions of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. Knowledge of general security and patrol procedures and practices. Knowledge of the information needed in reports of incidents occurring during shift hours.Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with department staff, other SRPMIC staff, including law enforcement agency staff, and the public. Skill in following oral and written instructions, guidelines and procedures. Skill in understanding a variety of rules, regulations and policies.Skill in interpreting and assessing situations, issues and concerns. Skill in listening well, and communicating effectively with Community Members, employees, and diverse members of the public having considerable variation in values and educational and cultural backgrounds. Ability in preparing incident reports and in documenting incidents.Ability to handle and control any situations that requires immediate response. Ability to exercise good judgment while responding to various situations. Ability to remain on feet for extended periods of time. Minimum Qualifications Education:
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. Preferably 2 years of experience working in a security officer position. Must successfully pass the SPRMIC background process.
For enrolled Community members without a GED, must obtain a GED. Requires participation in the HR GED Program and successful completion of the Arizona state certified exam in order to continue employment with SRPMIC.
Equivalency : Any equivalent combination of experience and education that will allow the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the job may be considered when filling the position. Underfill Eligibility:
An enrolled Community Member whom closely qualifies for the minimum qualifications for a position may be considered for employment under SRPMIC Policy 2-19, Underfill.

As required and scheduled, works evenings, week-ends and/or holidays while court is in session and/or at other times as required to provide building security, escort assistance to jurors, court employees and/or others working or present after the close of normal business hours.
Prior to hire as an employee, applicants will be subject to drug and alcohol testing. Will be required to pass a pre-employment background/fingerprint check. Employees are subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
