Enterprise Architect, Texas
Description
Title: Enterprise Architect

Location: Temple, TX (3 days per week on-site)

Our best option seems to be H1b candidates who are willing to relocate to Temple, TX and transfer their Visa to McLane for full time employment.

I believe the best way to close this requirement is to find candidates that fit the technical requirements, are looking for an H1b transfer/full time, direct hire role and can relocate to Temple, TX (about an hour drive north of Austin, TX/2.5 hour drive south of Dallas).

Feedback is below for candidates who have previously interviewed.

"For this one, he doesn't have enough EA experience. In speaking with him, he mentioned to me he only has 3 years of Enterprise Architecture experience. He mentioned he only has 1 real hands on project with Application Rationalization"

The biggest focus for this role is what is listed below. Candidates need to have the experience in the following:

Experience with Application Rationalization – needs to be strong with this – would like to do this upfront

Understanding application landscape – how it fits with our business function and how it is being used

Creating plans on removing duplicate functionality

Should be able to explain this pretty well – narrate what they do, need to ask about this

400 applications covering the McLane landscape – in-house systems, bought systems, etc.

Cloud First Architecture – strong in cloud native solutions and cloud architecture

Making systems so they can round anywhere

Redhat OpenShift

Right person will look at this and understand this software – how do you use it and leverage

Must have a degree

Typical Day to day:

So many different things

There will be business meetings – expected to meet with key stakeholders, business, IT, and external customers – all different levels, VP's to different levels of the organization

Being able to create diagrams and visuals

Mainly going to be working with Jerome and the team (Harold, Jessica, Bill) – in the end the primary function is to take vision of the business and capture in diagrams/architect where the solution can translate it into something that can be done

Most critical competencies:

Passionate

Drive things in new directions

Entrepreneurial

Thought Leader

What do you foresee the challenges being for someone in the role?

Wide breadth of things to learn and things to know – sponge mode for 4 to 6 months

Initial expectations – making diagrams – making headway with workshops – initial thing is learning the business

Flexibility is important

Prescreening questions to ask:

What is the role and function of Enterprise Architecture in an organization?

Ask about Cloud First Architecture

Ask about Redhat OpenShift

What have been the major blockers in establishing a working Enterprise Architecture Organization?

Ask about Application Rationalization

Do you have any Enterprise Architecture Certification training or experience? Any other certifications that you would want to highlight?
