Description
Summary:

This job description is a general guide for Operator positions. In general, this position sets up and operates conventional, special purpose, and other operating machines to fabricate parts by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements. Measures and marks reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent work to be performed.Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as grinders and saws. Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth and angle of cut, and/or enters commands. Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications. Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data. Confers with production personnel or others to resolve machining problems. Sets the highest ethical standards for self and others.Other duties as assigned Education, Skills, and Experience:

High School/GED or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum six months on-the-job experience required for advancement into Machinist I position. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); work near moving mechanical parts; toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme heat (non-weather) and risk of electrical shock.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
