TRIO Peer Tutor - Student Hourly | University of Kansas
TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is much more than a program; we are a community. Our dedicated and experienced staff provide a welcoming, supportive, and inspiring place for students who are navigating the challenging environment of the University. As part of KU's Center for Educational Opportunity Programs, TRIO SSS aims to increase the college retention and graduation rates of participants, and to help them make the transition from one level of higher education to the next. TRIO provides comprehensive, personalized support services to eligible students, helping them achieve academic success and graduate with a bachelor's degree. We also support students as they prepare for graduate school and for success in a global environment. The ideal candidate will present a professional demeanor, have excellent verbal and written communication, and tutoring skills. The ability to work independently and pay attention to detail are important. Overall, we are seeking a team member with great interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to follow through with tutoring assignments.Job Description
75% - Tutoring Attention to individual learning needs. Assist students in subject content preparations for class/tests. Review important concepts relevant to subject tutored. Assess learning progress and preparedness of students. Establish an environment of patience, encouragement, and rapport with students.20% - Reporting&Training Be punctual and consistent in attendance for tutoring sessions. Complete online time sheets as directed by the office manager/payroll supervisor. Complete all necessary paperwork as directed by the Assistant Director of Academic and Professional Development. Keep Assistant Director of Academic and Professional Development informed of any tutoring issues.Attend all required tutoring orientations, trainings, and team meetings, etc. 5% - Other Duties Check KU email regularly for information/assignments. Tutors are requested to give a two-week notice before resignation. Required Qualifications
3.0 or better GPA in subject area(s) to be tutored or special consent from the Assistant Director of Academic and Professional Development. 12-15 credit hours in subject area(s) to be tutored or special consent from the Assistant Director of Academic and Professional Development. Experience communicating effectively with varied populations, as evidenced by application materials.Preferred Qualifications
Prior knowledge or experience in tutoring varied populations, as evidenced by application materials. Completion of one semester or more of coursework at the University of Kansas. Eligible for work-study. Position Requirements
During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).Employment Conditions
(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR. (2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
