About the Opportunity

Our client, a leading mechanical contractor in the Capital District, is seeking a skilled Mechanical Estimator to join their team. This is a high-impact, permanent position with full benefits, responsible for supporting a steady flow of commercial and industrial projects—primarily public bids and select private work.

This role is ideal for a self-sufficient HVAC or construction estimator who understands mechanical systems and enjoys taking ownership of the full estimating cycle—from identifying opportunities to submitting competitive bids.

Key Responsibilities

Develop cost and profit estimates for mechanical projects (HVAC, piping, boilers, etc.)

Identify public bid opportunities using NYS online tools and track bid calendar

Attend pre-bid meetings and conduct site visits as needed

Interpret and analyze blueprints and specifications to determine labor and material needs

Work directly with the owner to analyze profitability and determine strategic bid approaches

Assist with monthly billing applications and manage aspects of project oversight once awarded

Occasionally manage change orders or track project progress in coordination with GCs

Maintain vendor relationships and stay current with industry pricing

 

What We're Looking For

3+ years of experience in mechanical estimating, preferably in HVAC or piping

Ability to interpret construction documents and assign cost effectively

Self-starter with strong attention to detail and ability to work independently

Background in plumbing, mechanical, or union trades is a plus (degree not required)

Familiarity with local vendors and public bid processes in New York State

Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills
