Machinist

Machine shop workers use machine tools to make and modify parts and products. They may also perform repairs and maintenance. Responsibilities Set up and operate machines: Use precision equipment like mills, drills, and lathes to cut, grind, and shape parts Create and repair parts: Make new parts or fix existing onesInspect and test: Check the quality of finished products Maintain equipment: Keep machines in good working order Follow safety rules: Comply with safety regulations Keep records: Maintain logs of production and quality Plan inventory: Manage stock levels Communicate: Consult with engineers and coworkersSkills

Precision: Work with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail Problem-solving: Be able to solve problems and manage time Material knowledge: Understand the properties of metals and other materials

Machine shop workers can work in small businesses or in factories. They may also work as machine operators, machine shop leads, or tooling and machining inspectors.
