About the role
This is a key position within our business operations, requiring maturity, reliability, professionalism, and a high degree of discretion.
You will serve as the primary HR and payroll resource across a multi-entity restaurant group, working closely with owners and managers to ensure our team is supported, compliant, and paid accurately and on time.
The right person is proactive, detail-oriented, and thrives in a close-knit small-office environment where flexibility and initiative are valued.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, exercise sound judgment under pressure, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment is a must.
Responsibilities:
Payroll & Operations
Semi-monthly payroll processing for multiple entities
Prepare final paychecks
Tip distribution card loading
Respond to employee inquiries on payroll, tips, tax forms, and training
Manage onboarding portal and employee file accuracy
Healthcare enrollment administration
Employment verification forms
EDD & state agency communications
Workers' comp audit documentation
Compliance & HR
Ensure compliance with California labor laws
Proactively research upcoming minimum wage and regulatory changes
Create and update policies and procedures for new labor regulations
Manage workers' compensation claims
Address workplace complaints and concerns
Handle EPLI-related matters with sound judgment
Manage employee compliance documentation
Partner with owners and managers on HR issues as they arise
Qualifications
?3+ years of payroll processing experience, preferably in a multi-entity environment
?Experience with ADP Workforce Now
?Strong working knowledge of California labor laws, including proactive compliance practices
?Familiarity with EPLI exposures and best practices for reducing employer liability
?Must have advanced proficiencyin Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis)
?Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
?Sound judgment and decision-making skills when triaging tasks and meeting deadlines
?Experience managing multi-entity payroll for a high-volume hourly workforce
?Comfortable supervising and delegating to a shared support staff member
?Professionalism and discretion in handling sensitive employee and legal matters
?Self-starter who adapts well in a small, collaborative office environment
+Food service and restaurant payroll & compliance experience — a plus
+Experience with Toast & GratShare - a plus
