Senior Street Light Electrical Engineer (Engineering Jobs), Washington

The position services as the most senior Street Light Electrical Engineer for the District’s 75,000 lights

along local roads, bridges, alleys, and interstates. The individual will provide technical expertise,

leadership, and advice in the coordination, management, and oversight of multiple professional

electrical engineering assignments. The incumbent oversees the work efforts of a ward-based team

involved in electrical engineering and related activities, including street lighting and electrical design

work to ensure work products of high professional quality to enhance the quality of life of District

residents and visitors. Looking for well-rounded applicants with the capacity to lead and

collaborate as well as using his or her engineering experience to enhance and improve the unit’s

performance and successfully maintaining a core infrastructure asset. Client is in the middle of a

procuring a contract to convert all streetlights to LED within two years, and this position’s incumbent

will play a pivotal role in overseeing this significant project.



Duties and Responsibilities:



The incumbent provides overall direction and guidance for the development and administration of full-life cycle needs of the District of Columbia’s streetlights, including system design, expansion,

maintenance, and replacement. This includes creating new forms of analysis for the construction of the

system and leading a team to assist with the system’s maintenance. As the team leader, the employee

will consult with senior level technical representatives from utility companies, federal agencies, and

other District of Columbia government agencies. The successful candidate will create and revise

procedures, criteria, and specifications for results based on these interactions, including performing

analysis and technical evaluation of the design, purchase, installation, and operation of the District’s

electrical streetlight system.



The Supervisor will be responsible for the management and procurement of contracts and its start to

end administration and implementation. This includes invoice and charge order management,

communication with consultants and contractors as it relates to the streetlight network and updating

agency leadership as the contract is implemented. The incumbent will also review and develop the

installation instructions for streetlights systems in the District of Columbia, as well as monitor

construction and renovation projects to the streetlight system.



Qualifications and Education:



Candidate must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lowest

grade level (grade 13), or its non-District equivalent, gained from the public or private

sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped the applicant with the

particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, including

thorough knowledge of electrical engineering theories, principles, practices and techniques as well as

laws, regulations and standards related to electrical engineering; this also includes experience in traffic

engineering and Intelligent Transportation Principles.
