Job Title: Maintenance Technician – CNC Focus
Job Description
This role focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing CNC machines and related mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems in a clean, precision machining environment. The Maintenance Technician ensures equipment operates safely and efficiently through preventive maintenance, accurate diagnostics, and thorough documentation, supporting consistent, high-quality production.
Responsibilities
- Monitor gauges, dials, and other indicators to ensure equipment operates within proper parameters.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly preventive maintenance checks on CNC machines, mills, motors, pneumatic tools, and production equipment to maximize equipment effectiveness.
- Ensure reliable operation of CNC machines and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance according to diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer instructions, and engineering specifications.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues by identifying root causes using sound diagnostic and problem-solving methods.
- Install, service, troubleshoot, and repair hydraulic systems, including pumps, valves, and associated components.
- Install, service, troubleshoot, and repair pneumatic systems and tools used in the production environment.
- Perform electrical and electronic maintenance on motors, controls, power supplies, and power distribution systems, applying AC/DC theory as needed.
- Support mechanical maintenance activities including lubrication, power transmission, and other mechanical systems related to CNC and production equipment.
- Maintain accurate record keeping and documentation for machines, equipment, and facility files, including maintenance activities and repair histories.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical parts manuals, electrical and mechanical diagrams, and other technical documents to guide maintenance and repair work.
- Use gauges, meters, calipers, and other measuring tools to verify proper operation and alignment of equipment.
- Follow all established safe work procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment, lockout/tag-out, and protocols for confined spaces and elevated work areas.
- Collaborate with the maintenance team to support all aspects of the maintenance department, with a strong focus on CNC equipment reliability.
Essential Skills
- Demonstrated experience in electrical and/or electronic and mechanical maintenance, including motors, controls, power supplies, and power distribution.
- Practical knowledge of AC/DC theory as it applies to industrial equipment maintenance.
- Hands-on experience with hydraulics and pneumatics, including installation, service, troubleshooting, and repair of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Ability to perform preventive maintenance on CNC machines, mills, motors, pneumatic tools, and production equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify root causes of mechanical, electrical, and control issues.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical and mechanical diagrams, technical parts manuals, and operations manuals.
- Proficiency using gauges, meters, calipers, and other precision measuring tools.
- Experience with PLC troubleshooting to support automated equipment and CNC systems.
- Ability to follow detailed engineering specifications and manufacturer instructions when performing maintenance and repairs.
- Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices, including consistent use of personal protective equipment and adherence to lockout/tag-out, confined space, and elevated work area procedures.
- Strong documentation skills for maintaining accurate machine, equipment, and facility maintenance records.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience supporting a maintenance department across a range of production and facility equipment.
- Familiarity with lubrication practices and power transmission components in an industrial setting.
- Comfort working from diagrams, sketches, and engineering documentation to complete complex maintenance tasks.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small, collaborative maintenance team.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to preventive maintenance and equipment reliability.

Work Environment
The role is based in a clean machine shop located in the Sumner / Puyallup area, with a headcount of approximately 46 employees and continued growth. You will work around CNC machines, mills, motors, pneumatic tools, and other precision production equipment, using standard maintenance tools, measuring instruments, and diagnostic devices. The schedule follows a 4x10 workweek, Monday through Thursday, with shifts running from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., providing three consecutive days off each week. The environment combines the technical focus of aerospace machining with the supportive culture of a family-owned operation.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Puyallup, WA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $45.00/hr.
