Job Description

This role leads the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all building systems and equipment within a heavy industrial manufacturing facility. Serves as the on-site Chief Engineer, managing both hands-on maintenance activities and the engineering team, while ensuring compliance with safety standards and supporting continuous plant operations. The position combines technical building systems expertise, people leadership, and client-facing communication in a fast-paced, highly industrial environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the maintenance and continuous operation of all building systems within a heavy industrial manufacturing facility.
  • Supervise and manage engineers and maintenance staff, including hiring, training, coaching, and supporting their professional development.
  • Create, implement, and routinely update a documented plan for preventive, predictive, and reactive maintenance procedures.
  • Perform hands-on maintenance and repair tasks around the plant, including mechanical, electrical, and general facility work, in addition to administrative duties.
  • Participate regularly in client-facing communications and property team meetings to ensure alignment on operational priorities and service expectations.
  • Lead, create, and manage the engineering budget and contribute to the overall operating budget process.
  • Assist in the development and planning of capital improvement projects for building systems and infrastructure.
  • Select, schedule, supervise, and direct contractors, while monitoring and documenting their performance and compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies and service calls, both in person and over the phone, ensuring timely and appropriate resolution.
  • Lead and organize ongoing technical, safety, and operational process training programs and procedures for the engineering and maintenance team.
  • Ensure safe and responsible use of all building systems and equipment, including HVAC systems, electrical systems, compressors, and other critical plant equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and use technology tools to track work orders, maintenance schedules, and asset performance.
  • Follow all site-specific safety protocols and procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to plant access and egress requirements.
  • Perform physical tasks such as lifting, climbing, bending, and kneeling as needed to inspect, maintain, and repair building systems.
  • Complete other duties as requested by the property management team and/or client to support safe, efficient facility operations.

Essential Skills

  • 7+ years of related experience in building, industrial, or facility maintenance, preferably in leadership positions.
  • Proven people management experience leading an engineering or maintenance team, including hiring, training, coaching, and performance oversight.
  • Strong experience with HVAC systems, including compressors, chillers, rooftop units, exhaust fans, cooling towers, and air compressors.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial, building, and facility maintenance, including mechanical, electrical, and repair work.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues and perform preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Technology acumen with familiarity and practical experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and Teams.
  • Strong customer service orientation with excellent written and verbal communication skills in a client-facing environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely as part of routine job duties.
  • Comfort working at heights using ladders up to 30 feet tall.
  • Ability to frequently climb, bend, kneel, and perform other physical activities required for maintenance and inspection tasks.
  • Willingness and ability to work on-site in a heavy industrial manufacturing facility and wear required PPE, including powered air-purifying respirators (PAPRs), for extended periods.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
