Salary $920 per Instructional Unit Up to 10 IU's/Quarter Yakima Valley College seeksinnovative adjunct Spanish Instructors for the Yakima and and Grandview Campus committed to community college students and their success to teach on the Yakima and Grandview Campus. This position is part-time, non-tenured track. Reporting to the Dean – Arts and Sciences, the adjunct Spanish Instructor will have strong Spanish Language credentials, be culturally competent with commitment and expertise in working with diverse populations, utilize appropriate technology in the classroom, and have a record as a successful teacher demonstrating strong promise as a contributing member of the Artsand Sciences Division. We value opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, find ways to utilize cooperative learning, and are utilizing various technologies in the classroom and for distance delivery of instruction. All faculty are engaged in the assessment of college goals and purposes. Tothe extent reasonably possible, the adjunct Spanish Instructor shall keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise. Essential Tasks JOB PROFILE: The primary responsibility of the instructor shall be to teach Spanish language classes and develop departmental curriculum and course materials Participation in college-wide registration and advising Adequate preparation for course instruction and effective and full use of the designated class meeting time Availability for student consultation outside of class on a daily basis while holding a full-time faculty appointment Skilled in outcomes assessment of student learning and program effectiveness. Strong interpersonal communication skills for effectively working and interacting with colleagues, staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and ability to communicate effectively in a multicultural setting Demonstrated ability for written and oral communication in the classroom and with other professionals Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in Spanish Demonstrated successful teaching experience PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: MA degree in the teaching of Spanish (pedagogy)rather than Spanish literature Experience teaching Spanish Language at a high school, community college, or university Preference will be given to those having experience living in a Spanish speaking country for a minimum of one year Current formal education in teaching, and current training provided at seminars, workshops, or in-service training sessions Experience developing Spanish curriculum and monitoring Spanish student progress Native or near-native Spanish fluency Familiar with modern trend and issues in foreign language teaching methodology Experience working with culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse populations Ability to articulate commitment to the community college philosophy Supplemental Information Application Instructions: To apply for this position, you MUST submit a complete YVC Online Employment Application, and include the following REQUIRED attachments: A cover letter describing how you meet the qualifications of this position (a generic cover letter will not be accepted) A current resume (a resume will not substitute for the "work experience" section of the online application) Three (3) professional references (personal references do not count as professional) Unofficial transcripts for confirmation of degree (if minimum qualifications require a degree).
